Well, just so you know, it is different every week. We are now
using internet really early at 9 in the morning because it is
faster in the morning. So if you want to email me on Monday do it--on
Sunday :) Or else I won´t get it.
Thanks mom for your email. I did find one new person this week but
mostly we were visiting members and ahhhhh I want to send pictures so
badly but I can´t. When I try, the computer freezes up. One day you
will receive photos....one day. I don´t know what it is about
Quillabamba because I have really awesome zone leaders. I
am receiving mail really fast. I received a whole lot of letters this
week and last week. Thanks family and friends :)
Clark has to pay to receive his package? Well, so do I but the
mission pays for me (better said I paid 5 dollars for a card that lets
them pick up my packages for me, but if there is a fee they pay it). THEN it is sent to the post office where I am and then the Zone
leaders go and pick it up every Monday/Wednesday. It is also pretty
cheap here to send letters to the US. It was 8 soles last Monday but in
Urubumba it was like 20. One dollar is about 3 soles in Peru.
And well, we did find one new person this week and we are teaching a
few families but they don´t have baptismal dates because they need to
get MARRIED first. But for the first time in my mission, I think we will
be able to get a few people married because I just found out that
civil marriages will be free in the month of July. WAHOO! You have
no idea how much that can bless the work. People either
aren´t married because they don´t see the importance of it or because
they can´t afford it...much of the cases are of the latter.
Also, I felt really grateful for temples so close to us at home
because yesterday we planned for a temple caravan for the branch in
December so people can go and get sealed to their families and recieive
their ordinances...but the families need to save 50 soles every month
until December if they want to be able to go.
That is a LOT of money
for the people that work for their daily wages of food and clothing. They are willing to try and make the sacrifice for the blessings
of the temple. What faith.
So yesterday we got together with a less active family to cook a
native dish of Northern Peru (the jungle) where my companion is from.
It is called Tacacho. It is really easy to make and really tasty. I
will teach everyone when I get back but you need a different kind of
banana not the normal ones (in Spanish it is Platano de Ceda). Basically you cook the bananas in water for a time until
they are soft and then you mash them all up (the texture is like
cookie dough not like normal mashed bananas), fry up a little onion and
some meat and put it all together and then with your hands roll it up
into balls and EAT. It is so delcious but my companion made such HUGE
balls that neither her nor I could finish. But it was so fun.
Anyway...this is the last week of my companion in the mission. It is
really sad but she is ready to go...though I hope that I am NOT ready
to go when that time comes. :) Everyone says that I will be training
the next change but I am not so sure. I don´t feel ready to receive a
brand new missionary but if it is the case...PRAY!!! haha
Lots of love,
Hermana Lindsey
