Hola Familia!!
Bueno, este semana fue lo MAXIMO :) This week was the best! Tuesday
was a great day for one, we were teaching a family we had contacted in
the street and we asked them to go get their pamphlet of the Plan of
Salvation we had given to them and the little boy said "I have
something better" and ran under his bed and dusted off an old Book of Mormon that his sister had received and he had kept...dun dun dun...
from Hna Cuenca one year ago. NOT a coincidence. Anyway, we are
teaching this family and it is great. Only that they are not
married...like everyone else that lives in this country. NO one is
married. But, I guess that is why we are here :)
Also, Tuesday at lunch the zone leaders called and said "Hna Lindsey,
you are going to Cusco for a training for the trainers and the
district leaders and you are leaving in one hour." WHAT? So I had to
pack super fast for a couple of days in Cusco and went with my
district leaders up there. It was great! President talked about
teaching correct principles and they will govern themselves...quote
from Joseph Smith I think. He talked about rising above mediocrity.
He talked about the importance of having a vision. A vision of who
you want to be, how you want your companion to be, how you want your
investigators to be, your area, etc. Then use this vision to plan
your activities for every day. Planning with a celestial purpose. El
que pide poco es un loco. It sounds so much better in Spanish :)
haha When you have a vision you have animo....what is animo in
english? Anime....excitement? no sé.....
Then Thursday I returned and Friday President came here to have a
conference and once again, even though a lot of things he repeated
from the training, I learned a lot. Proverbs 29:18. He made us all
say and write down Hoy día decidí ser feliz. Today I decided to be
happy. Pres. is one of the most happy people I know..I can learn a
lot from that.
He also taught us basically how to set a plan with purpose, how to set
goals, and how we can make plans to better work with the members here.
My companion and I are really excited to get working. We have 4
baptisms on the 28th of April, and 2 more con fecha and lots of
really great people we are teaching. The blessings are raining down
in Quillabamba. I thank the Lord every day I have the opportunity to
be in the mission. I can"t imagine my life without all of these
experiences...some hard some super awesome but all in all so worth
everything.
Hna Hoffman and I went to talk to the Pres when we were in Cusco and
she said, "You know I don't know what is wrong but I just felt so much
happier in the MTC and now I don't know why its so much harder to be
happy. Pres said "OF COURSE..haha in the MTC you have no
responisibility...you practice...then you go play soccer ( haha) and life
is great. Here they are real people.....real teachings...and real
responsibility. What happens later in life when you are married and
you have your first child and say,[you know it was a lot easier to
be happy before he was born (haha) but now your happiness comes with
responsibility and its our time to learn how to be happy NOW and not
wait for experiences to come to make us happy." It is so true.
Well, that was pretty much this week. I love my area. Training is
definitely a new experience for me but I am learning. This time we
were preparing for a district conference this Sunday and my companion
and I prepared a choir and I played the piano (haha). Can you believe
that?! I can't but it turned out super great and it was so cute
because they all took it so seriously and even the sisters bought
each other matching scarfs to wear. I will send a picture. But the
members and everyone was so impressed that we had organized a
choir!!! But it goes all to my companion. She did all the work...I just plunked out the piano :)
Hope this weekend was a great weekend of reflection for everyone about
the joy that we can have in this life because we know for a surety
that Christ overcame the physical death for all of us and we can all
live again. He is our Savior and Redeemer and is our source of true
joy if we will but turn to him and let him help us. As the Book of
Mormon says...there is only one way unto Salvation and this is what we
declare boldy to the world...that He lives and He leads his true
church...the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. I hope you
all know what a significant thing it is you have to know that this
gospel is true and it is an active part in your life.
I love you all so much.
Hermana Lindsey
