Hola Familia!!
It is an ancient tradition here in Peru when a man is choosing his bride that all the women gather together and whoever can peel a potato the cleanest and the fastest would be the better bride. If I lived in ancient times, I would never get married! We helped a family peel potatoes for their work this week and....I peeled a few. hahaha
Well, for
Thanksgiving I had rice. I miss mom's cooking but I am glad you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I love hearing the news of home.
Dad, thanks for the update on Family Search and the note about obtaining the word. I am convinced that obtaining the word has do do with receiving a witness of the Holy Ghost. As it says in Mosiah "Have you not applied your hearts to understanding?" Elder Bednar teaches that understanding is more than a knowledge. Understanding is knowing in the mind and in the heart. When we obtain the word, we have a witness of the Holy Ghost that it is true and no one can change that witness. We can better teach the word because the Holy Ghost can better carry it to the hearts of the children of men. (2 Ne 33:1)
This week was really great. We planned on two baptisms, but we had four with a baptisimal date. The other two were not sure because the dad is an inactive memeber and wanted to wait for his daughter to be baptized later when he had the preisthood so he could baptize her. But he is having some real problems with the word of wisdom, is trying to recover, but it is a hard and a slow process. In the end we told him to pray about the date and ask God if this is the date his daughter should be baptized. We left thinking that we had lost another baptismal date for this weekend. We decided to fast the day before the baptisms. The morning of the baptisms, we called him and he said "Hermanas I want to talk with you". "I prayed about the date, and I felt a witness from God that this is the date my daughter should be baptized. You have my permission" We ended up having 4 baptisms this weekend, and they were all really really great. I have a strong testimony of fasting now. It truly has power. And now, because we worked so hard for these four people this week, I am feeling the a little tired from th effort. hahaha.
The 22 of Dec we are going to Cusco for a dinner at the Mission Home, but I will be spending Christmas day here in Urubumba. I know that I get to call you guys, but I don't know exactly when. But I will definitely let you know. David, thanks for your email. I am glad you are doing so well. Patriarchal blessings are wonderful. Always heed to their counsel!! Clark, how are mission preps going?
With much love,
Hermana Lindsey
